Clergy Assignments 2021

In consultation with the Clergy Personnel Board, Bishop Michael Duca makes the following appointments effective 01 July 2021:
–– Retirement of Pastors ––
Father David Allen, currently Pastor of Holy Family in Port Allen, will retire from active parish administration. He will retain his diocesan assignment as Clergy Health Minister.
Father Paul Counce, currently Pastor of St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge, will retire from active parish administration. He will retain his diocesan assignment as Judicial Vicar.
The Diocese of Baton Rouge thanks these priests for their many years of service to the people of our local Church!
–– Pastor Appointments ––
Father J. Cary Bani, currently Pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in St. Francisville, is appointed Pastor of St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge. Father Bani will retain his diocesan assignment as Director of Continuing Formation for Priests.
Father Christopher Decker, currently Pastor of St. Frances Cabrini in Livonia, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Maringouin, and St. Joseph in Grosse Tete, is appointed Pastor of St. Mary of False River in New Roads. Father Decker will retain his diocesan assignment as Secretary for Communications.
Father Bradley Doyle, currently Parochial Vicar of St. Margaret, Queen of Scotland in Albany, is appointed as Pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in St. Francisville while also providing Priestly Ministry to the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.
Father Ryan Hallford, currently Parochial Vicar of St. Aloysius in Baton Rouge, is appointed as Pastor of Holy Family in Port Allen. Father Hallford will retain his diocesan assignment as Secretary for Evangelization.
Father Joseph Vu, currently Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in St. Amant, is appointed as Pastor of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in St. Amant.
–– Administrator Appointments ––
Father Arun John, IMS, a priest of the Indian Missionary Society, is appointed as Administrator of St. Frances Cabrini in Livonia, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Maringouin, and St. Joseph in Grosse Tete. We welcome Father John back to Louisiana to minister once more!
–– Parochial Vicar Appointments ––
Father Paul Gros, currently parochial vicar of St. George in Baton Rouge, is appointed as Parochial Vicar of St. Margaret, Queen of Scotland in Albany. Father Gros will retain his diocesan assignment as Co-Director for the Office of Formation for the Permanent Diaconate.
Father Joshua Johnson, currently pastor of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in St. Amant, is appointed as Parochial Vicar of Christ the King at LSU in Baton Rouge. Father Johnson will retain his diocesan assignment as Vocations Director.
–– Parochial Vicar Appointments (Those Being Ordained 22 May 2021) ––
Father David Dawson is appointed as Parochial Vicar of St. George in Baton Rouge.
Father Danny Roussel is appointed as Parochial Vicar of St. Aloysius in Baton Rouge.
Father Taylor Sanford is appointed as Parochial Vicar of Immaculate Conception in Denham Springs.
–– Diaconate Appointments (Those Being Ordained 14 August 2021) ––
In consultation with the Office of the Diaconate, the Office of Formation for the Permanent Diaconate, and the Clergy Personnel Board, Bishop Michael Duca makes the following appointments effective 16 August 2021:
Deacon Glenn Farnet is appointed as Deacon Assistant at St. George in Baton Rouge with his assigned Ministry of Charity to assist the Missionaries of Charity at St. Agnes.
Deacon Glenn Hymel is appointed as Deacon Assistant at St. Philip in Vacherie, St. James in St. James, and Our Lady of Peace in Vacherie with his assigned Ministry of Charity to minister to the incarcerated at the St. James Parish Prison.
Deacon Michael Parker is appointed as Deacon Assistant at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in St. Amant with his assigned Ministry of Charity to serve as Assistant Chaplain at St. Michael the Archangel Diocesan Regional High School in Baton Rouge.
Deacon Eulis Simien is appointed as Deacon Assistant at Sacred Heart of Jesus in Baton Rouge with his assigned Ministry of Charity to the poor and disenfranchised at the Baton Rouge Chapter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Deacon Paul Soileau is appointed as Deacon Assistant at St. Thomas More in Baton Rouge with his assigned Ministry of Charity to minister to the infirm at Oschner’s O’Neal Campus.
Deacon Robert Templet is appointed as Deacon Assistant at St. Anne in Sorrento and St. Anthony in Darrow with his assigned Ministry of Charity to minister to the infirm at Our Lady of the Lake – Ascension.
