How To Become Catholic
Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) and
Adapted for Children (OCIC)
Are you interested in knowing more about becoming Catholic? Listen to this beautiful testimony by Carter who recently joined the Church.
(The name of the process changed after this video from RCIA to OCIA.)
Are you interested in becoming Catholic?
Do you have family or friends who are not Catholic?
Please share this testimony and personally invite them to join us at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary to learn more.
All are welcome to come and find out more without an obligation to commit at this time.
Who is the process of OCIA for?
Adults and children, in 2nd grade and older, who have never been baptized.
Christian adults and children who have been baptized in another faith tradition.
Baptized Catholics who have not received formation in the faith or received First Eucharist or Confirmation.
Note: For Catholics who have already received First Eucharist and are only in need of the Sacrament of Confirmation, a 6-week formation class is offered in the Spring. This class is needed to prepare to receive Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday. https://www.olohr.com/adult-confirmation
How Do I Get Started?
Attend one Inquiry Session in August to get more information and to register.
Wednesdays in August at 6:30 pm in the Adult Education Building.
Open to adults, teens, children, and their parents.
Contact Wendy wenloe@olohr.com or Bebe at bebe@eatel.net to sign up for an Inquiry Session.
When are the classes?
Every Wednesday beginning in September until one week after Easter.
Adults: 6:30 - 8:00 pm
Children 6:30 - 7:30 pm
(Children with parents in the adult classes are welcome to stay until the adult class lets out.)
Both groups meet in the Adult Education Building.
The candidates will attend 9 am Mass together in November for adults and before Lent for children until Easter.
Other important dates will be given during the Inquiry meetings.
What to expect?
- The initial Inquiry meeting, in August, will be a time for you to introduce yourself to us and learn more about the process of becoming Catholic.
- Beginning in September, you will attend our class sessions with a sponsor. Sponsors are faithful Catholics who accompany you on your journey. You can choose your own sponsor, or we can help you find someone.
- Each class session begins with a prayer led by our team members. The prayer will include information on the holy men and women of our faith.
- Presenters who are not only knowledgeable but also passionate about their faith will give a lecture on different topics relevant to the Catholic Christian faith.
- Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions in smaller groups. People have found this to be a non-judgmental and non-intimidating way to express their thoughts, questions, and concerns.
- You will experience the Catholic Mass and the prayers of the Church together with your sponsor.
- If you discern to become fully initiated into the Catholic Church, you will receive the Sacraments of Baptism (if not already validly baptized), the Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation during the Easter Vigil ceremony (the night before Easter Sunday).
This is the typical journey to becoming Catholic. Our team, along with the Pastor, will accompany each person along the way. We help you to experience the path God has called you to take in your life of faith.'
